MY APPROACH

Alex is passionate about supporting others in navigating the inner journey of their psyche.

Alex has nurturing yet firm energy, which allows her to hold gentle and accountable space for clients to grow and heal. Alex believes in a holistic approach to health; which includes understanding and supporting her clients in the emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual aspects of their life. At the forefront of her holistic framework, she connects with people through a trauma-informed, and strengths-based lens.

Emotion-focused therapy, Satir family systems, existentialism, depth psychology and mindfulness-based approaches inform her work with clients. Alex takes the time to continually learn the latest knowledge and applications of trauma research. This includes but is not limited to polyvagal theory, the overlap of neuroscience with psychology, and the use of body-centered practices to support the body in releasing trauma. Counselling can seem overwhelming, that is why Alex strives to make the process as comprehensible and gentle as possible, while helping clients access their resiliency and internal resources. Your work together will allow you to explore both your internal and external experiences to bring awareness to what may be contributing to stagnation, frustration, or hopelessness.

 

Alex uses a range of different strategies and skills in psychotherapy to support the initiation and enhancement of transformation. Alex will provide her professional expertise, offer clarity and insight into what you are experiencing and then support you to decide what you want to focus on at a pace that is comfortable to you.

Alex believes that compassion is rooted in wisdom and courage. She views the growth of compassion as a continual journey that has the power to bring light to even our darkest shadows. You can expect to be encouraged to dive deeper into compassion, and to use the attitude of compassion to find balance in the extremes; engaging with both light and dark of life. Alex believes that your experiences are valid, and that you have developed ways of coping and interacting with the world for good reason. You can expect your experiences to be honoured, for Alex will invite you to feel what you feel.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The stages of therapy:

01 – FIRST STAGES

In our first few sessions, we will work together to build a solid therapeutic alliance. Here, I will work to establish safety and trust with you so that you are more comfortable to explore your life experiences with me.

I will focus on instilling hope while gaining a depth of understanding on how your struggles are impacting you. Together, we will get clear on what you want in life, and the goals you seek to achieve. We will also work on a self-care plan to ensure you are taking care of yourself (holistically and in entirety) in between counselling sessions.

 

02 – MIDDLE STAGES

Once we have built our therapeutic foundation, we will start moving towards a deeper level of understanding. Together we will inquire into old patterns that are no longer serving you and identify new ways of being that bring ease.

As you gain insight and confidence in your sense of self, you will move into the necessary motivation needed for change.

 

03 – ENDING STAGES

Near the end of our therapeutic working relationship, you will experience shifts in your life for the better and feel satisfied with the movement and accomplishment of your goals.

The length of counselling differs from person to person, dependent on the needs and motivation of each individual. I believe in the benefits that longer-term therapy can facilitate, therefore I am committed to your process for the length of time that best fits your needs. When you start to feel more empowered; are making consistent and substantial progress, and feeling more at peace, we can start to wind down our work together.
